If a book’s launched by anyone other than Anne Freeman, did it even happen? I jest, yet I don’t, because this wonderful human launched my book! She’s pure effervescence, and I couldn’t wait to see her take on The Proust Questionnaire:
What’s your idea of perfect happiness?
Not to sound sappy but perfect happiness looks uncannily like my life now. But zoom in closer and, what’s that? My invisible and domestic labour is gone! Poof! Oh, and my children don’t need reminding about anything. Socks turned the right way around? Of course they are! Teeth brushed? Look at them gleam! Plates in the dishwasher? You betcha!
And dream of all dreams: I make a decent living from my creative writing.
Let’s get really crazy… My type 1 diabetes is cured! Five injections a day to live? Don’t be ridiculous!
While we’re dreaming big, let’s give everyone on Earth a big old injection of empathy—I’m talking way above the recommended dose on the bottle. That should sort everything out.
Sigh. Perfect.
What is your most treasured possession and why?
This question has really stumped me! Nothing of significance springs to mind. No priceless heirloom, no emotionally significant artifact. I bloody adore my laptop and my pillow but these are replaceable. Old photos—few and far between—are special to me, but other than that I could run out of a burning house with only a child under each arm, and a husband on my back!
What is your most marked characteristic?
My most marked characteristic is giving things a red hot go. I often joke that my tombstone will read: ‘Here lies Anne Freeman. She tried.’
I never throw up my hands in defeat. I am always trying. Always striving. And it’s usually with a grin on my face and a spring in my step.
Who is your hero of fiction?
There are too many to name. A new one every week. I love reading about women who are their own knights in shining armor. The ones who feel the fear and do it anyway, all while keeping their worlds turning.
Who are your heroes in real life?
My best girlfriends are my heroes. They’re smart and funny and tenacious and caring,—and a bit ragey. All of my best friend characters are a love letter to them.
What is your story? aka your name, bio and book details including the best place to find you.
Anne Freeman—not a pen name. Who would choose such a boring pen name?
I’ve got two book babies (Me That You See, 2024 and Returning to Adelaide, 2022) and a new one in gestation—The Time After Now, due August 2026.
I hang out on Instagram.
And please subscribe to my monthly newsletter where I sling fresh updates, free downloads, and exclusive content.
